Avatar group
An avatar group shows several avatars together in a stack or grid.
When to use
- Several people attached to one thing, such as the watchers on an issue or the members of a team.
- Showing that several people are involved, when who they are matters less.
- A tight row where names would not fit.
When not to use
- One person, where a single avatar and their name is clearer.
- A list people need to read. Use a list of names instead.
- When the order could be mistaken for a ranking. A stack looks ranked even when it is not.

Set a maximum and show the rest as a count. Four faces and a number are quicker to scan than eight faces.

Do not show everyone. After a handful, the faces are hard to tell apart and the row just gets longer.
